Our town will celebrate the beginning of the holiday season on Friday evening, Dec. 5, in Chester Center. A tree, donated by Ric Kellogg of Hale Hill Farm, will be set up in the median at Main and Maple Streets, and Chester Rotary will put on the lights. Our schoolchildren are making snowflakes to decorate the tree, and Chesterfields and Aaron Manor are making more decorations. Main Street will be lined with luminaries (thanks to the Boy Scouts) and Saint Lucia Girls will stroll around with treats. Beginning around 5:45, the United Church of Chester choir will start caroling around town and our Chester children and their families are invited to meet at the tree to sing in a community sing-along, led by Meg Gister. The town tree lighting will be at 6 p.m. Shops and galleries will be open for the evening, offering beverages and light refreshments along with special happenings. Free parking is available at the Water Street and the Maple Street parking lots.
