Celebrate the arrival of spring with the Annual May Daze Night Weekend Art Gallery and Shop Opening Reception stroll. There will be Shop and Gallery opening receptions for new exhibits and previews in Chester Center from 5pm - 8pm.
"Every May we keep our doors open late on the Friday night closest to May Day to celebrate the arrival of Spring. We have receptions in our galleries, shops, studios and restaurants", says Leif Nilsson, artist and owner of the Leif Nilsson Spring Street Studio and Gallery. "It is a festive evening, where townspeople and visitors are invited to stroll the streets of an antique New England Village to see the latest paintings, photographs, sculptures, fashions and jewelry, to sample baked goods and fine food, and to discover handcrafted decorative accessories and furnishings."

A storybook New England village, Chester is located on the beautiful Connecticut River, about 10 miles north of Long Island Sound on the left (port) bank. “Serendipity,” a solo exhibit of recent pastel paintings by award winning
Connecticut artist Elizabeth Rhoades, will be presented by the Connecticut
River Artisans Cooperative at the Mill House Gallery, 5 West Main St., Chester, CT, from May 1- 31, 2012.
There will be an opening reception with the artist on Saturday, May 5 from
2:00 pm- 5:00 pm. Refreshments will be provided. Elizabeth’s pastel
paintings are characterized by their vibrant color and sensitivity to the
natural forms and light in the landscape. Her representational
impressionistic work captures the elegance of the scenic countryside. Her
portrayal of momentary passages of sunlight and shadow allow the viewer to
experience the simple beauty of common places that would otherwise be
easily overlooked.
“In my work, I am taking you to a special place. In this place you feel that
you are safe, undisturbed, that the world around you is filled with peace,
and you have solitude. There is a sense of timelessness, and you can

May Day Kid's Night Out in Chester
Circle of Friends Montessori will be offering a night of food and fun for children on May 4th, from 5-8pm. Parents can enjoy downtown galleries and shops while their children enjoy an evening of pizza, arts and crafts, games, movies and more.
